New Oxford Section Chairman!

Motorcycles at the 2017 AGM at Uffington

Good evening everyone, hope you are all keeping well. We held the section AGM on Sunday so this will be my last communication as Oxford Section Chairman. I would like to say that I have very much enjoyed being the Oxford Section Chairman  over the last 10 years and would like to thank everyone for all their help and support.

‘The King is Dead – Long Live the King’ as the saying goes, and I am very pleased to report that the 2017 AGM voted overwhelmingly to accept Derek Johnson as the new Oxford Section Chairman. Noel Robertson also offered to remain on the committee with the intention of taking over from Derek as Chairman at some point in the future. It’s a bit like London Buses: you wait ages for one and then two come along at once!

What this means in practice is that we will have experienced leadership for the section in the future; I will also still be part of the committee to help ensure there is a smooth transition – the section will continue to operate with its usual effectiveness. Ian Hartley will be providing more details of the AGM meeting in his excellent minutes, and I expect he will publish those on the section website for members to read about the AGM discussion and decisions in detail.

I am sure all members will support Derek and the 2018 committee in continuing the excellent work the section has achieved in recent years. As we all know a social club is only as good as its members and we are very lucky to have such an active and engaged membership.

Whilst I am stepping down as Chairman I will continue to lead the Media & Technology sub-committee covering website, facebook, newsletter and the sat nav project with North Oxford Garage. And of course I will be very happy to continue to help the club in any way possible.

Best wishes Steve

Busy 2017 AGM? (They were all eating the excellent food!)

  1. Thank you Steve for all your hard work as our skipper for the past 10 years, steering us with a steady hand with an eye to the horizon for new ways for us all to engage in the Club, both on a social and technical level. Much appreciated. Dick & Jane Robinson
