Lechlade Camping Weekend and Ride Out by Dave Hawkins

This year’s camping weekend started a day early with 4 people joining Me at Lechlade on Thursday afternoon.
All retired folks who have escaped the daily grind of work, except for me I had to take a holiday from work to be there.
I left them pitching their tents and got the bicycle out of the camper and went home to fetch My BMW to lead the rideout on Saturday.

In all there were 3 sidecars and 1 solo with trailer as well as the usual loaded up solos
Martin and Angela from Oxford Section are seasoned campers but this was their first camping trip on a bike.
We were all impressed by Martin finding room for the bike cover along with all the other gear on his 1200GS.

The rideout on Saturday left the camp site on time so the non campers meeting us along the road should not have had too long to wait for us to arrive.
11 bikes in all had a leisurely ride over the Lambourn downs to the Ridgeway Centre at Court Hill for tea and cake before returning to Lechlade vie White Horse Hill and Faringdon, with some of the day trippers peeling off and heading for home along the way.

Thanks to Mark for being tail end and Andy for following Me when I took My bike home and bringing Me back to Lechlade,
this saved Me cycling back for the van.

After a hearty meal of fish and chips brought back to the camp site from the local chip shop it was back in to town for a few beers, then a walk back across the cow field to the camp site. Watch Your step and don’t forget the torch!
The overnight rain had almost stopped by Sunday morning but most campers still had to pack wet tents away.
Not Me though as I just had to pack away the gazebo and table and chairs from using the van as “base camp” for the weekend.

The camp site are happy to have us back next year and the dates will be Friday 3rd of June to Sunday 5th of June,
the weekend after the second May Bank Holiday again.
