Another year and another great BBQ combined with the Red Kite Rally creates another memorable weekend.

Thanks to those that work so hard in the background organising the rideouts and cooking the food it really is appreciated.

Hope the joint event will happen for 2019 as it works so well.

August 18th – Red Kite Rally ‘Circuit de Chilterns’  – John Ottaway

Ok first off thanks to all who attended and given comment already.

The day started at the campsite with Oxford Section members, arriving steadily with the offer of tea/ coffee and bacon roll…

At role call 09.30 , we had x8 bikes and x9 people, down on some ride outs ..but probably due to the knowledge of where I might take them !!

We left at 09:40, out around Christmas Common, to Britwell hill and onto Benson. Picking up x2 more bikes and x3 people, the full complement today.

Weather was kind, albeit not sizzling hot, perfect for riding . We followed part of the ‘Chilterns cycleway’ out of Wallingford for some ‘single track’ stuff, in the heart of the Chilterns now and meandering along nicely. (Even 79 yr old Keith on his scooter coped admirably.)

Out past Stoke Row and to our coffee stop at Stonor Park (plenty of cyclists in evidence) .

Then, past Turville, Stokenchurch, Bledlow Ridge to our 2hr lunch at The Dashwood Arms Piddington. Our landlord was very engaging and even brought out his own trusty steed for us to examine. ( we made him put it next to the scooter. Ha ha .)

Food was amazingly good value, then onto Marlow and circumnavigated Burnham Beeches. Quick stop at the services as a couple of riders then peeled off.

Onwards to Amersham, Bryants Bottom , Monks Risborough…returning to campsite . ALL well, no punctures, drops, losses, or any issues to be dealt with .

Enjoyed a Celebratory coffee and final chat. A great day out !

Oxford Section Sat Nav Project and Survey

The aim of the project is to improve our collective knowledge of how to use our Sat Nav’s and to help members get the best from them.

We have produced an electronic newsletter and have completed a booklet supported by a local dealer of top 100 tips.  The first of several workshops has been undertaken in July with Barnstormers in Maidenhead and a further one is planned for September 15that North Oxford Garage addressing some of the issues identified by our members.

Drop me a line if you would like an insight into the results
