BMW Launches the R1250RT with TFT Navigation

BMW has just launched the new BMW R1250RT, following on from the latest R1250GS/GSA updates. The new R1250RT has some interesting new features: in particular the adapting LED headlights (also announced for the latest R1250GS) and the new ‘large’ TFT display which has allowed BMW to offer TFT navigation. The new R1250RT does not have a mount for the Navigator 6.

The new TFT display is very interesting and perhaps it might appear one day on BMW’s flagship tourer the K1600? There have been recent shots of prototype BMW TFTs with map displays and this function might also appear on the R1200GS/A, R1250 F800/900 models. In fact apart from the K1600 the rest of the BMW range is now equipped with TFTs so perhaps this more advanced navigation will be available on a wide-range of BMW motorcycles?

Navigation in the larger TFT screen

Of course the traditional dedicated sat nav has many advantages but the combination of TFT and BMW Motorrad Connected app is opening up new options for planning and riding it will be interesting to see how this develops. For now the R1250RT is an excellent motorcycle, probably the best all-round tourer available and the FIRST BMW to have the latest navigation tech. For more information on the R1250RT please see the BMW Motorrad UK website.
