BMW Oxford Summer Barbecue 2021

The BMW Oxford Section BBQ was held for the very first time at the Enstone Flying Club on Sunday 15th August 2021. 53 members turned up on the day — an excellent turnout.

Our hosts were Angela and Paul (from Enstone Flying Club) who made sure the day ran very smoothly.

The club house was very cosy and served us with various hot and cold drinks during the course of the day at a reasonable price to our members.

As there was a slight wind on the day it was decided that we would all be seated at our tables in the aircraft hanger where we were served a delicious 2 course meal while being surrounded by an array of various aircraft and enjoyable background music.

Paul (one of our hosts) also decided to show us how the Spitfire Simulator operated, which was an added bonus for our members.

There was plenty of hard standing for parking available for all our attendees. We also decided to have a competition for the cleanest and best turned out motorcycle in the following categories: Modern, Classic and best turned out Rider or Pillion.

Bob Mack very kindly volunteered to assist me with the judging — thank you Bob. I am happy to announce the winners were as follows.

  • Modern Motorcycle Winner: David Jobling. BMW R1200GS.
  • Classic Motorcycle Winner: David Holland. BMW K75.
  • Best turned out rider or pillion. Winner: Karen Jobling.

Well done to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone who took part on what was a very memorable and fun day.

During the course of the day quite a few members commented on how much they liked the venue and would be very happy to come back in 2022. I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Broad who recommended this venue for our consideration!!

These events take at lot of organising so my thanks must also go to Geoff Clough, Steve Moxey, Tim Bolderston, James O’Shea and Dave Tomlinson.

Hope to see you all soon,

Best Wishes,

Zenon Krafft.
