Lechlade 2011

Thanks to all who attended the Lechlade camping weekend, either as campers or as day visitors.  We had people on 2 3 and 4 wheels, Jack from Yorkshire and I even managed 6 wheels by taking our bikes in the back of a van.

Jack was having an extended weekend and using his van as a base and his bike,   a 1200 GS, to tour the area.

I used My van to carry the cooker, kettles, table and all the other stuff to keep people supplied with tea and coffee. It was also useful as a place to store helmets and jackets while we went in to town for food or drinks.

We had over 25 tents on site and were in danger of exceeding the camp site’s limit of 35 tents including non BMW club campers. The site has a licence to take this number as the local council has decided this is the maximum number the toilets and showers can cope with.

The Ride to Bourton On The Water went well and Cotswold Motor Museum proved popular with those who went inside. There were cars and motorbikes and lots of other things from the past to look at.

The museum is also home to Brum, a little car who lives in the museum and stars in His own television series. Brum is celebrating 20 years on TV and was a favourite of Rossana’s sons when they were younger.

Rossana was so pleased to meet Brum that she even sent Him a birthday card!

After the rideout Saturday evening was spent enjoying the hospitality of the local pubs, a couple of them had live bands on and one even brews its own beer.

Sunday morning was cool and cloudy but everyone was able to pack away their tents dry and after a late breakfast in Lechlade it was time to leave for home.

And finally, sorry to anyone who tried to phone Me at home on Thursday evening, I’d already gone to Lechlade. (The campsite phone number had been in the April and May editions of The Journal along with instructions to book direct with them if anyone needed this information.)
