Lubricating stiff locks.
At this time of year it’s not unusual for the locks on our motorcycles to stiffen up and become awkward to turn.
The problem can arise in the key ignition/ steering lock, pannier/top box locks or any other lock exposed to the elements.
Moisture and corrosion are the main culprits.
Squirting liquids into them is not always the best solution and I’m sure that BMW have a very expensive recommended jollop to do the job.
A simple, harmless but effective solution is to use the fine dust created by scraping pencil lead.
Use a small piece of paper with a crease in it to introduce the dust into the lock and put the key in and out, several times, to distribute the dust inside.
Alternatively you could plan ahead and buy some graphite powder.
