Rideout to Boscombe Down Aviation Collection Sunday 19 May

Details for the Rideout on Sunday 19 May.

Meet at the Pear Tree Services OX2 8JZ, 09:30 for a 10:00 start. Leader – Stuart Giles; stuartordegiles@outlook.com

After a scenic sixty-mile ride mostly down the A338, we will arrive at the picturesque grass airfield of Old Sarum where, housed in an impressive wooden roofed hangar, the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection now resides.

The collection comprises mostly aircraft of the 1950s through to the 1970s. There are several fuselage front sections with open cockpits that visitors are welcome to climb into, some aircraft are open to sit in. There are many other artefacts and static scale models to view. The museum is staffed by helpful and knowledgeable volunteers that are keen to show visitors around. It is a much more hands-on experience than other well known collections. The standard adult entry is £11.50 and £10.50 for concessions. They will offer a reduced rate for a group that includes a guided tour.  There is a good café approx. 300 metre walk away, serving good hot and cold food with seating inside and out, overlooking the airfield.
