BMW Club Oxford Section Report for November 2017
SNR’s: Oxford section have also introduced Short Notice Rides, these tend to be mid-week events with a day or more notice, which have been very popular.
This month’s events have seen us go to Stourhead for the autumnal display, a breakdown in Stadhampton right next to the pub, Aerospace Museum in Bristol housing Concorde and a wintery ride to the “Super Sausage Café”!
Saturday 4th November – 50th Anniversary Dinner and Disco
Over 50 members attending this 50th anniversary event at the Belfry Hotel in Milton Common ably supported by the Mighty Triple O Band.
We all enjoyed a nicely served and cooked 3 course meal which then set the members up for some energetic “throwing some shapes” on the dance floor!
A lovely evening meeting some old and new friends in an entertaining setting – anyone for next year?
Saturday 12th November – Oxford Section AGM
Several of our members received recognition for their service to the club: –
Richard Powell
Tim Read
Andy Lawson
John Broad
Phil Carter
Clive Stevens
A note from the previous Chairman Steve Moxey, stepping down after 10 years in the role:- We have a new Oxford Section chairman, Derek Johnson, after the AGM. This is very good news for the section, we also have a ‘chairman-in-waiting’ in Noel Robertson so everything is looking good. I just also wanted to thank everyone for their support over the last 10 years, time has flown by and we have achieved a lot. I will still be looking after the Media & Technology sub-committee so I am sure you will still be hearing a lot from me in the future
November 18th – 26th – Motorcycle Live
A number of Oxford members made their way to the NEC by motorcycle and car to visit the annual motorcycle show at the NEC and all came away impressed with the sheer size and variety of motorcycles, accessories and participant events on offer.
Several of our members headed for the off road event where participants were encouraged to watch the action and then try their hand at some of the activities ie how to pick a bike up safely – educational and great fun….
Others were engaged in ensuring the next generation were being catered for and spend their time with a very excited 16 year old going round the numerous stands trying out the wares, not their normal eye candy!
Oxford Section Sat Nav Project and Survey
Earlier in the year we announced the start of the Oxford Section Sat Nav Project between the Oxford Section and North Oxford Garage. The aim of the project is to improve our collective knowledge of how to use our Sat Nav’s and to help members get the best from them.
We have produced an electronic newsletter, and now we are working on a booklet supported by a local dealer of top 100 tips. The first of a number of workshops is organised for January addressing some of the issues identified by our members.
Drop me a line if you would like an insight into the results
