The Newsletter Next Steps

Taking on the challenges of editing the BMW Oxford Newsletter

Somehow or other I now find myself at the ship’s wheel, looking out to navigate the Newsletter into slightly different waters perhaps. Of course these waters have become increasingly uncertain due to Covid-19. We have to stay safe, not take chances and eventually there will be light at the end of the tunnel and we can get back on our beloved two wheels again!

The Newsletter can only be as good as the quality of the content it contains. Obtaining the highest quality content is a constant challenge. So far it has been excellent and particular contributors form the backbone of the content creation. Previous issues have had items about members, bike reviews, product reviews, rides/tours, maintenance and diary events, amongst others.

Areas that have been relatively underrepresented include a female take on all things motorbiking. Other areas would include advanced riding, changes in technology, such as communications between riders, sharing of routes between riders and navigation software.

An important new area for our section is the Meetup ® BMW Club Oxford Motorcycle Riders. It would be fair to say Covid-19 has upset the plans, but news and feedback about these rides will feature in the Newsletter.

Some other areas that will be experimented with include a caption competition where there will be a prize to the value of £10 and the satisfaction of knowing you were the winner! For all you keen amateur photographers, there will be a ‘postcards from your ride section’, where we will publish the best images you email in, showing your motorbike in a great location from your travels.

The newsletter has a track record of success and of course there is a very good old maxim, ’if it ain’t broke why fix it?’ Any changes made will be of an evolutionary nature with the focus continuing to be on well written interesting articles. Your involvement in contributing towards the success of the Newsletter will remain as important as ever.

Stay safe.
