Geoff Clough led the rideout on Sunday 10 May 2015 to Weston super Mare.
22 bikes started from The Sun Inn, Coate, Swindon at 9.30. Following the Devizes road we passed through Avebury (collecting another bike in the middle) riding through the stunning Stone Circle and then followed the avenue of standing stones towards West Kennett. [I’m not entirely sure how the ancient Brits managed to lug all those stones into position!] Turning onto the A4 we passed Silbury Hill, another amazing ancient monument before collecting another couple of bikes in Calne including Stuart a member who had joined the Club the previous evening! We headed past Melksham, then joined the A361 bypassing Frome and Trowbridge arriving at the coffee stop at the East Somerset Railway near Shepton Mallet.
After the café stop, a drop of the wet stuff arrived (not forecast), but our spirits were not dampened as we headed for Cheddar riding across the Mendip Hills and down through the breath-taking Gorge. The wet stuff went away and the sun tried hard to come out as we rode along the edge of the hills across the A38 and M5 using unclassified roads past Axbridge, Loxton and Bleadon and finally into Weston super Mare. We helped to fill up the Bike Park on the front alongside the big wheel before dispersing for food, drink, ice creams, donkey rides or alternative pursuits. Some of us went to the Helicopter Museum at Locking. Very interesting museum and bike friendly – well worth another visit.
Thanks to Tim Read for the pictures and the Video of the bikes leaving to visit the Helicopter Museum.
Sounds like a great day out at Weston with a good turn out of bikes. Many thanks to Geoff for stepping into the breach and organising the ride out. Steve
