London to Beijing Update No 8

Made it to China; 7,200 miles, 10 countries but still approx 5,000 miles to go.  It’s the Tibet Plateau next, up to 10 days at over 14,000 feet, sometimes higher, and very basic accommodation.  But more of that when we get to Lhasa on 18th June.

From Dushambe it’s been 1,000 miles of spectacular mountain scenery, some of the most challenging roads yet and proper integration with the local Tajiks, staying in their houses and eating at remote roadside stops.  It’s been sunny and therefore hot and dusty all the way, unlike Europe I gather.  Just imagine you are on the top of the world, no one around apart from nomads with their livestock and with the occasional ‘Shangri La’ scene and you have it.

Pictures speak louder than words so:

Come on girls, lets stampede that alien on our track (Andy looking anxious as the goats close in).

Another corner another mountain in Afghanistan.

I bet my cherries against your raspberries that he didn’t ride that thing all the way from London.  (Kerb vendors, Kashgar Western China.)

Maybe the photo course is starting to pay dividends

    Ho ho.
Riding through that mountain environment looks truly spectacular. Reminded me that in the UK at least we here have been lucky with the weather recently and it’s been very sunny. Think of this ……….
Country lane ride out , followed by BBQ and pint …… Bet you’ve done loads prior to your current situation. Eh ?
