Visit to Light Weapons Wing

On Wednesday 14th May Section members visited the armoury in the Light Weapons Wing at the Shrivenham Defence Academy. The armoury contains examples of the majority of firearms designed since the early 18th century and is used as a teaching aid for MSc students in weapons design. Our guide was Lt Col (Rtd) John Starling who gave us an informative and entertaining talk and allowed us to handle many of the weapons. They were all in full working order although fortunately were not loaded!

  1. Thanks for taking us Tim.

John Starling was a bit unusual but a real character.

I could get really interested in guns in fact I fancy a double pumper shot gun for sorting out the pigeons in my garden.
